Forests and Common Lands

CISED has been involved in assessing forest-cover change both in terms of specific ecological impacts and overall economic impacts and their distribution. We have also evaluated the government-sponsored participatory forest management programme in Karnataka. Another area of study has been the changing role of forests and common lands in providing subsistence and incomes to different strata within rural communities, both locally in Karnataka and across India as a whole. Although focusing on forests and common lands, our research keeps the agrarian context of these resources always in the picture.
